Holloway Hall Community Garden

Every Monday

The Community Gardening group at Ley Hill meet every week to learn how to grow food, techniques for looking after fruit trees & bushes, and other skills such as woodwork. They also grow a mix of flowers and have grand plans to put up lots of bird boxes around the site! All of the food grown can be taken by the group to use at home.

Milebrook Hall Community Garden

Every Thursday

Pop along to Milebrrok Hall and spend a couple of hours chatting and growing fresh vegetables and fruit. Listen to the birdsong as you tend to the raised beds and brush up on our horticultual skills. Each month, you will use the seasonal vegetables to make budget friendly soups in the hall.

Rowheath Community Garden

Every Friday

You will start the day at 10am with a relaxed birdwatching walk around Rowheath Park. Then have a go at sowing, growing, and harvesting your own food. Not only will you learn about the joys of growing your own food but you will also make new friends, learn new skills, and the outdoor life will lift your spirits.

Branching Out For Nature

Bird Watching for Beginners @RSPB Sandwell Valley

Tuesday 4th March

Join RSPB volunteers on an easy monthly walk around the reserve, whether you are new to birdwatching or just want to discover more about wildlife at the reserve, the team will give you tips on getting started, point out the different birds, how to identify them and how the seasons bring different changes to the valley.

Seasonal Living Workshop: The Ostara Edition

A year long exploration of nature, the seasons, Earth based wisdom and seasonal living! Ostara is a festival celebrated by many modern Pagans and Wiccans that coincides with the Spring Equinox. Ostara symbolizes themes of renewal, rebirth, and balance, aligning with the awakening of nature, blooming flowers, and the return of warmth after winter. You’ll learn about the wheel of the year and Sabbat itself. Cherry Blossom Workshop & Art Picnic + Cherry Blossom Concert

Sunday 23rd March

Follow the Japanese tradition of Cherry Blossom viewing and host a free art picnic on Oozells Square. Visitors can enjoy a range of free art activities which take inspiration from Japan’s rich history of graphic art and design. Create your own cherry blossom ‘sakura’ print to take home or grab a brush and easel to paint a seasonal masterpiece of Ikon Gallery amongst the cherry blossoms. 

Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) return to Brindleyplace to present their annual free Cherry Blossom Concert, in collaboration with Ikon. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon performance amongst the blossom trees in Oozells Square. The music for this year’s event follows the life cycle of a tree, from using living trees and plants as instruments, to the refined sound of the violin.

Conservation Issues of Warley Woods Talk

Wildlife conservation in urban settings has its own set of issues it needs to address. Raising awareness of urban conservation can go a long way in combatting some of the issues we face. Sometimes even well-meaning individuals can inadvertently be harming their local environment. At this talk you will look at some of the environmental issues being faced at Warley Woods, and what Wild Warley is trying to do to combat them and how you can help to make Warley Woods ‘Better for both people and wildlife’.

World Book Day: Somebody Swallowed Stanley

Led by artist Sarah Hamilton Baker, this sensory and interactive story time brings to life two wonderful stories about appreciating and caring for our environment.

“Plastic bags don’t belong in the sea!”

Everybody has a taste for Stanley – and the other ocean creatures just keep mistaking him for a delicious treat – but this is no ordinary jellyfish. Most jellyfish have dangly-gangly tentacles, but Stanley has two handles… Other jellyfish have a magical glow, but Stanley has stripes… Because Stanley (spoiler alert) is a plastic bag!
