Holloway Hall Community Garden
Every Monday
The Community Gardening group at Ley Hill meet every week to learn how to grow food, techniques for looking after fruit trees & bushes, and other skills such as woodwork. They also grow a mix of flowers and have grand plans to put up lots of bird boxes around the site! All of the food grown can be taken by the group to use at home.
West Heath Community Centre Garden
Every Tuesday
Get ready to enjoy a day filled with fun activities, beautiful greenery, and a sense of community. Take a stroll through their lovely garden, participate in gardening workshops, and connect with fellow nature enthusiasts. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to relax and unwind in the heart of our community.
Milebrook Hall Community Garden
Every Thursday
Pop along to Milebrrok Hall and spend a couple of hours chatting and growing fresh vegetables and fruit. Listen to the birdsong as you tend to the raised beds and brush up on our horticultual skills. Each month, you will use the seasonal vegetables to make budget friendly soups in the hall.
Kitwell Wildlife Conservation Project

An afternoon filled with outdoor fun and conservation efforts. Help TCV Birmingham protect and preserve the local wildlife and meadows in the area.
Shenley Little Kitchen Garden
Every Thursday
Help TCV Birmingham maintain the Little Kitchen Garden. Grow your own food and take part in local urban conservation efforts whilst making friends with like minded people.
Rowheath Community Garden
Every Friday
You will start the day at 10am with a relaxed birdwatching walk around Rowheath Park. Then have a go at sowing, growing, and harvesting your own food. Not only will you learn about the joys of growing your own food but you will also make new friends, learn new skills, and the outdoor life will lift your spirits.
Eco Gym

A free nature based volunteering session. Get moving with a variety of tasks that will give your local green space a helping hand. Meet new people who share a passion for being outdoors and staying active. Soak up the benefits that fresh air and green space have on our mental health.
Bird Watching for Beginners @RSPB Sandwell Valley
Saturday 4th & Tuesday 7th April
Join RSPB volunteers on an easy monthly walk around the reserve, whether you are new to birdwatching or just want to discover more about wildlife at the reserve, the team will give you tips on getting started, point out the different birds, how to identify them and how the seasons bring different changes to the valley.
Wild Herb Medicine Workshop

Step into the world of natural remedies with a hands-on foraging and herbal medicine experience. Join Sustainable Life Birmingham for a 1-2 hour foraging walk, where you will look at common wild plants with edible or medicinal uses, historical uses and poisonous lookalikes aimed at beginners and helping you to get started in the world of foraging.
Clare Hewitt: Everything in the forest is the forest
From Saturday 18th April to Monday 31st August
Responding to a government report suggesting that loneliness and isolation were increasing in rural areas of the UK, acclaimed photographer Clare Hewitt presents new work that celebrates trees and their remarkable ability to nurture and communicate. Setting up a studio within a circle of twelve oak trees, Hewitt documented the forest and its seasonal changes, exploring nature and the forest through a range of sustainable photography techniques.
Climate Café

Extinction Rebellion and Friends of the Earth jointly present Climate Café, a space to learn about environmental issues and solutions to them. Join a different expert every month for tea, coffee, cake, and the opportunity to hear what they have to say for 30 minutes, followed by a chance to stay to chat and share ideas if you would like. The 45‑minute film captures key moments from last November’s National Emergency Briefing, where leading experts in climate science, health, food security, economics, national security, and nature laid out the latest evidence on how environmental change is already shaping everyday life in the UK. `You’ll hear how issues such as extreme weather, rising food prices, pressures on health services, infrastructure disruption, and household energy costs are affecting communities across the country.

Low-carbon construction
Tuesday 28th April
Rob Nield from Webb Yates will talk about low-carbon construction, the use of stone as a low-carbon substitute to steel, as well as concrete and hybrid stone and timber construction and how this might be a great alternative to CLT for our UK climate and environment. The technical meeting will explore the Stone Demonstrator – a pioneering full-scale prototype showcasing how pre-tensioned natural stone and hybrid low-carbon materials can be used to create significantly lower-embodied-carbon structural systems for modern buildings.
