SustainaBrum Sustainable Christmas Market

Sunday 16th November

We’re so excited to be hosting our third SustainaBrum Sustainable Christmas Market at Attic Brew in Stirchley! All the traders are sustainable, so it’s the perfect place to pick up eco gifts for Christmas! There will be Christmas tunes, and the beer will be flowing! Holloway Hall Community Garden

Every Monday

The Community Gardening group at Ley Hill meet every week to learn how to grow food, techniques for looking after fruit trees & bushes, and other skills such as woodwork. They also grow a mix of flowers and have grand plans to put up lots of bird boxes around the site! All of the food grown can be taken by the group to use at home.

Milebrook Hall Community Garden

Every Thursday

Pop along to Milebrrok Hall and spend a couple of hours chatting and growing fresh vegetables and fruit. Listen to the birdsong as you tend to the raised beds and brush up on our horticultual skills. Each month, you will use the seasonal vegetables to make budget friendly soups in the hall.

FREE bug/ecology workshop with renowned queer ecologist Jazmeen Isa Qureshi

Saturday 1st November

Brum Unitarians are launching a year-long project to transform a patch of plain grass near Five Ways into an insect-friendly haven in the heart of Birmingham. In this launch workshop led by Jazmeen Isa Qureshi, you’ll look at insects, how to view them, and what they can teach us. Whether you’re a professor or a pre-schooler, there’s something in this for you. This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in insects, sustainability, environments and ecosystems.

Fabulous Fungi, Guided Walk @ RSPB Sandwell Valley

Youth Conservation Café: Coppicing, Tool Use & Access for All

Sunday 2nd November

Join The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country for a free day of hands-on nature conservation and tool use training for young people (16-25) in Birmingham and the Black Country! This session will explore practical conservation skills; introducing participants to hazel coppicing and accessible path maintenance, connecting traditional skills with wider conversations about equity, inclusion, and access to nature. You’ll learn how tool use, woodland management, and site maintenance can support both wildlife habitats and human wellbeing, ensuring that our green spaces are welcoming and accessible to everyone.

Bird Watching for Beginners @RSPB Sandwell Valley

Saturday 1st November & Tuesday 4th November

Join RSPB volunteers on an easy monthly walk around the reserve, whether you are new to birdwatching or just want to discover more about wildlife at the reserve, the team will give you tips on getting started, point out the different birds, how to identify them and how the seasons bring different changes to the valley.

From environmental arts and crafts to story time, mini-beast hunts, pond-dipping and woodland games, Nature Tots has plenty to entertain every young family! Based at our EcoPark education centre, you’ll soon forget its urban surroundings as you discover woodlands, ponds and meadows – there is even an orchard with apples ripe for picking in autumn! Nature Tots takes place every Friday morning during term time, whatever the weather, and is open to all preschool children and accompanying adults.

The Social Economy Awards Gala Dinner event brings to a close the Social Economy Drive’s week of events.
