Holloway Hall Community Garden

Every Monday

The Community Gardening group at Ley Hill meet every week to learn how to grow food, techniques for looking after fruit trees & bushes, and other skills such as woodwork. They also grow a mix of flowers and have grand plans to put up lots of bird boxes around the site! All of the food grown can be taken by the group to use at home.

Women Only Cycling Tuition

Every Monday in June

For complete beginners, who want to learn to ride a bike. Taught by qualified female instructors, bike and helmets will be available to borrow, however, these are limited and first come first served.

Sunday 7th June

CIVIC SQUARE and MAC are collaborating to host a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, creating space for collective reflection, dialogue and civic imagination in response to the realities of climate and ecological breakdown.

What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK? Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing – an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like extreme weather, food security, health and cost of living.

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden and a range of voices from across the UK. After the film there will be a short open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.

Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust’s Conservation Manager, Jake, will lead you on a tour of this beautiful nature reserve, which is a haven for wildlife and a stunning retreat for all those who visit. Come and learn all about the wildlife which thrives here, from the plants on the woodland floor to the trees which create a canopy above. You’ll learn about wetlands, meadows and the other habitats which exist here, the folklore which surrounds them, and the fantasy which was born here.

Queer Ecology: How Societal Bias Shapes Nature

Join Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust for a fascinating talk by entomologist Connor Butler which will mix science, nature, and inclusion to challenge the ideas we often take for granted about what is “natural.” By exploring examples from the natural world, it will show how many of our beliefs about nature and ourselves are shaped by bias.
